Carmen M. Tai Obituary

Carmen Magorie Tai

October 26, 1932 — January 31, 2026

In loving memory of Carmen Magorie Tai, who took her place among the angels on January 31, 2026, at the age of 93, peacefully departing this world with her beloved daughter by her side. Born on October 26, 1932, to Myrtle Doyley, and raised by her father, Huntley Williams, and step mother Adella Williams, in the lush, vibrant surroundings of Portland, Jamaica, Carmen's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith.

Carmen was the heart of her family, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Preceded in death by her young daughter Maureen, four devoted sisters, and two brothers, her legacy of warmth and kindness is carried forth by her surviving family: her five cherished children (Horace, Angela, Noel, Denval and Granville Jr.), nine adoring grandchildren, and five treasured great-grandchildren, along with four sisters (Minna, Daisy, Felice and Hortense), and a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews whose lives she touched with her gentle spirit.

Education was an important value for Carmen, having begun her journey at Boston Primary School and later pursuing vocational studies in St. Thomas, Jamaica. She left Jamaica as a young woman in search of opportunity for herself and her family. Settling in Long Island, NY, her career spanned nearly three decades in food service at Huntington Hospital, where she was known not only for her culinary talents but also for her nurturing demeanor and steadfast work ethic. She often talked about the power of education and encouraged her family and friends to achieve their dreams through its promise.

After retiring, Carmen embraced her new chapter with joy, spending her days between Georgia and Florida, where she found immense joy and pride in her growing family. Her greatest happiness was found in the simple pleasures of life: tending to her beloved garden and preparing hearty, soul-warming meals that brought family and friends together. Carmen's kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and love.

A devout Christian, Carmen served the Lord with all her heart. Her faith was her guide, her strength, and her solace. She offered her time and talents freely and generously. Her unwavering love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was a beacon to all who knew her.

A service to celebrate Carmen's remarkable life, preceded by a viewing beginning at 9:00 AM, will be held on March 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. John's Episcopal Church, located at 12 Prospect Street, Huntington, NY, 11743. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Watts Funeral Home in Florida, M.C. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington, New York, and the honorable Reverend Thomas Becker and his team at St. John's Episcopal Church for their support and care in honoring Carmen's wishes.

The family is eternally grateful for the prayers, love, and outpouring of support that have been a source of comfort during this time. Carmen's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the lives she so profoundly impacted. Her journey on this earth may have ended, but her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire and guide us.

The family kindly requests flowers be sent to M.C. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY 11746. Rest in peace, dear Carmen, in the eternal embrace of the Lord.
