Rosa Maria Scumaci Obituary

Rosa Maria Scumaci, age 73, of Huntington Station, passed away on Wednesday, February 11th after a long, hard fought battle with ALS.  She is survived by her husband (Joseph), children (Jarred and Lauren) and granddaughter (Sabrina) to whom she was affectionately known as “Lita”. 

Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on May 7th 1952, to Carmen Laureano-Alverio and Angel Garcia, Rosa Maria Garcia moved to the U.S. when she was still a baby, growing up in Spanish Harlem with her brothers Angel and David under the guardianship of her grandparents.  In May of 1982, Rosa married Joseph Scumaci, and together they eventually settled in Huntington Station where they would raise their children.  After receiving her associates degree Rosa spent several years in the professional sector but after having children, devoted her attention fully to her family.

Rosa will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and acceptance of all.  She enjoyed cooking, salsa dancing and spending time with her granddaughter, who she adored.  She was quick witted, enthusiastic and had a great sense of humor.  Above all she will be remembered for her unwavering love and devotion to her family.
