Joan Hagerman, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the age of 89, in Kings Park, New York. Born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, Joan built a life centered on family and faith. She was the devoted wife of the great love of her life, the late Thomas Hagerman, who preceded her in death in 2006. Their marriage was marked by affection, respect, partnership, and unwavering devotion.
Joan was a proud and loving mother to her children: daughters Kathleen and Eileen, and sons Thomas and Daniel. She was the perpetually congenial grandma to her grandchildren, Christopher, Sydney, and Matthew, and mother-in-law to Joe, Tom, Karen, and Tracey and loving big sister to her brother, Bill.
Affectionately known as “everybody’s mom” throughout her neighborhood of Rosedale, Queens, Joan always offered care and guidance to any child in need. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and togetherness and, inevitably, chocolate cake, where family and friends were always welcome.
A devout Roman Catholic from a young age, Joan attended daily Mass for most of her life. She faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister for many decades and dedicated many years to teaching CCD. Her faith guided every aspect of her life.
Joan adored children and animals of every kind, bringing joy, kindness, and comfort to all who knew her. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast love will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
