Frances A. Zepp died peacefully on November 23, 2025.
She leaves behind her husband, James F. Zepp, two sons Christopher H. Zepp and Peter J. Zepp, daughter-in-law, Jennifer S. Dutton and grandson Benjamin F. Zepp.
Fran was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 2, 1935. She graduated from Packer Collegiate Institute in 1953 and graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 1957 with a degree in English. She later received her Master’s Degree from Stony Brook University.
Frances met her husband, James while they were both attending Bates College. They married in June 1961 in Litchfield, Connecticut and celebrated their 64thanniversary earlier this year.
She was an avid reader her entire life. Her sons recall back in the early 1970’s when she would take a little red wagon filled with children’s books to the local community pool.
Fran would often have a small crowd of boys and girls listening to her animated readings of Dr. Seuss, etc. rather than playing in the water.
Frances was a beloved English teacher at The Knox School in St. James, NY for thirty years.
She thrived in the education environment and built many lifelong friends among the staff and students.
Upon her retirement, she volunteered for hours with adults that were striving to learn English as their second language. Frances took much enjoyment from their successes.
She also volunteered at the Huntington Public Library helping to prepare for their large used book sales, helping fund raise for new books and services.
Frances also joined a local ladies book club, ‘the bookies’ and thoroughly enjoyed their friendship.
Her passing has left a void in our hearts, but her spirit will always live on in all our lives. Fran’s laughter, warmth and compassion will be greatly missed.
