Robert “Bob“ Leroy Sonner, Jr – age 85 – passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025. Born in Jamaica, Queens to Robert Senior and Ella Sonner, Bob built a life full of tradition, family and love.
Bob was a proud graduate of the Stony Brook School with many fond memories and dear friends from his time there. Bob then followed in his father‘s footsteps, spending his entire career in aviation sales. He traveled all over the world for work throughout the years. Bob finished his career as an executive with Aerotron based in LaGrange, Georgia. Outside of work, Bob found his greatest joys on the water on Shelter Island and Greenport and on the open road in his beloved Corvette.
Above all, Bob was a devoted family man. He was the loving husband for 63 years of Betty, proud father of Sue (Dan), Jackie (Frank), Chris (who predeceased him) and Jenn (Jason). He was a cherished “Pop” to Meg (John), Michael (Sarah), Ryan (Evelyn), Alyssa, Frankie (Dana), Lily, Josie, Johnny and Alana. He was a wonderful “Pop-Pop“ to his great grandchildren, Danny, Tommy, Teddy and Henri. Bob was also predeceased by his loving in-laws James, Josephine and Jimmy Corcoran, his sister, Sue Hamilton and brother-in-law Curt Hamilton. Bob’s loss is also mourned by his dear brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Margaret Corcoran and cousins Bob and Eve Normandin.
We will all remember Bob for his steadfast integrity, quick wit, sharp tongue and ability to tell a story that put a smile on our faces.
