Frank Cannella, 83, of Huntington Station, NY, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 24th, 2025.
Frank was born July 1st, 1942, in Manhattan to young parents Gladys and Frank Sr., and was raised in the Bronx. He and his younger brother, Daniel, were placed into foster care, residing with many different families from a young age. As a loving brother, he was by Daniel’s side for many years until they were able to return home to their mother. Frank joined the Air Force and was stationed in West Hampton Beach at Camp Hero. He later graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Psychology and went on to lead a varied and colorful career; from a NYC taxi driver, to manager at OTB and a project manager at the MTA.
Frank had a love of classical music, singing, acting, writing short stories and novels, golfing, sailing, road trips, hiking and camping. Frank loved good food, great company, and a strong martini. He was a loyal friend and was truly loved by every person he met in his life.
Frank is survived by his brother, Daniel; Lorraine, mother of Katherine (Tom) and Frankie (Christine); Juanita, mother of Daniel (Mercy) and Laura; his son, Richie; his granddaughter, Jennifer (Alex); and his companion, Beatrice.
A wake will be held on Saturday, November 1st from 1-5 p.m at M.A. Connell Funeral Home with a military honor service at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please help Frank realize his dream of being an accomplished published author by purchasing his books. Bowling at The Laundromat (short stories), available on Amazon. Keep an eye out for Unfostered, a forthcoming book about Frank and Daniel’s experiences in foster care. Frank was also working on an unfinished novel, which his children may complete one day.
Frank’s family will forever cherish his sense of humor, wisdom, and endless love.
