Henry J. Schum, age 95, a resident of Palm Harbor, Florida (longtime former resident of Huntington Station, NY) passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol M. (Baran) Schum with whom he enjoyed 44 years of marriage until her passing in 1997.
Henry was born in Forest Hills, NY on September 15, 1930, and was the son of the late Henry W. and Maud (Schneider) Schum.
Henry was raised in Forest Hills, and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He serviced and sold business machines for Sperry Rand, and later for his own company. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and served in several ranks including Grand Knight in the Palm Harbor, Fl chapter. He worshiped and served devoutly at his parishes in both Palm Harbor, FL (St. Luke) and Huntington Station, NY (St. Hugh of Lincoln). Henry will be remembered always as “the caregiver”. He was helpful and generous with his time and attention to those in need.
Henry’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Heidi Robinson for her fun-loving care and constant support for our dad. We will always be forever grateful for her thoughtfulness, compassion and for keeping him connected to all of us.
Henry is survived by his five children: Gail Baldwin (Robert Zallwick) of Huntington; Dennis Schum (Mindy) of Melville;
Scot Schum (Deirdre) of Commack; Carol MacDonald (David) of Massachusetts; and Karen Schum (John Ferrer) of Huntington Station. He had 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Schum; and his grandson, Kevin Baldwin.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Henry’s name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), to the Knights of Columbus, or to a charity of your choice.
