Obituary of James J. Walsh

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

James Joseph Walsh, lovingly known as “Grandpa,” passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 93. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he lived a long life dedicated to his family, country, and faith.

Born in 1931 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, James met the love of his life, Mary Jane - his beloved “Janie”- while still in grammar school. He went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Navy, a commitment that reflected the deep sense of honor and duty he carried throughout his life. James and Mary Jane eventually married and began their family, later settling in Huntington, N.Y., where they planted the roots of a beautiful life and family together.

James worked for The Phone Company to provide for his family, all while serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves. In retirement, he and Janie devoted themselves to caring for their grandchildren. Whether attending school functions, cheering from the sidelines, or offering comfort on a “sick day,” Grandpa was always present. Sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa’s house were cherished, and his family-first values shaped generations.

A man of deep faith, James loved God with all his heart. His strength, sense of humor, and quiet wisdom were a steady light for all who knew him.

He is survived by his brothers Allan and Michael, four children - Susan (Timothy), Marijane (Dean), Patricia, and Jimmy (Angela) - as well as 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jane.

His legacy of love, patriotism, and faith lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his memory.
