Obituary of Sarah O Betar
Please share a memory of Sarah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth (Owens) Betar, who left us on June 24, 2025, at the age of 82. She passed at home in Huntington, New York, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 23, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, Sarah carried the warmth, grace, and charm of the South with her wherever she went. Her love of Southern cooking—from fried chicken to peach cobbler—was matched only by her joy in sharing it with family and friends. She had a tender heart for animals, and over the years, her home was always filled with the joyful sounds of purring cats, wagging tails, and visiting wildlife she was only too happy to feed.
Sarah lived a life rooted in kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. She touched the lives of many with her spirit and strength.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Michael Jr., her children Janeen (Craig) Wasoski and Patrick, and her four treasured grandchildren - Caitlyn, Michael IV, Lily, and Alexa - who adored their “Grandma.” She now reunites with her eldest son, Michael (Jeri) Betar III, who preceded her in passing.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 29th from 3pm until 6pm at M. A. Connell Funeral home in Huntington Station, New York. A funeral service to honor Sarah’s life will be held on Monday, June 30th at 9:45 a.m at the Church of St. Patrick in Huntington All who knew and loved her are warmly invited to join us in remembering the beautiful life she lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sarah’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that reflected her lifelong compassion and Memphis roots.
Thanks you for keeping our family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
