Obituary of Gregory DiBenedetto
Please share a memory of Gregory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
DiBenedetto, Gregory, 89, of Melville, passed away on April 1st, 2025. Beloved husband of 42 years to the late Isabella. Loving father of Anne McDonald (George), Maria (Paul DiPaola), John (Tamara), and Gregory (Amber Ternus). Adoring grandfather of Matthew, Anthony, Liam, Isabella, and Paul. Dear brother of the late Mary Szabados. Cherished uncle of Robert, John, Michael, Tony, Laurie, and Cathleen.
The consummate Renaissance Man, Gregory loved science and math as much as opera, film, history, and travel, and shared his passions with family and friends often inspiring them to take an interest in the wide variety of cultural pursuits he enjoyed. Gregory earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan College, as well as a double master’s in business and engineering. He worked as an Engineer for many years at Grumman Aerospace, where the highlight of his career was working on the F-14 Tomcat, known by many as the plane flown by Tom Cruise in the film, Top Gun. Gregory was devoted to his family and friends and was happiest when spending time on the beach with his grandchildren. He had an insatiable intellectual curiosity and was fluent in 3 languages, English, Italian and Spanish. He relished cooking his legendary gourmet dinners for Christmas and Thanksgiving; and was adored by all.
