"Great Loves Live On"
Mary left this Earth peacefully in her sleep on March 10. She is reunited in Heaven with her husband of 65 years, Andrew, and son, Gregory. She is survived by her children, Alexander (Vivienne), Laura Coneys (Edward), Austina McGowan Tiche (Pieter), and Vaira Van Son (Peter); cherished grandchildren, Alexis Berbenich (Robert), Andrew (Justine), Jacob (Jane), Peyton, Gavin, Colette, and Maxwell; and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Olivia, JJ, and Ambrose. All will miss their Matriarch dearly. A Mass will be held on Friday at 9:45am at St. Patrick's Church in Huntington.
Mary was born in Brooklyn in 1933, the only child of Lithuanian immigrants, Charles and Mary Zerolis. Life was not easy in the early days but through hard work and perseverance she achieved the American Dream. Mary belonged to a Lithuanian folk dancing group and, in 1951, she met the love of her life, Andrew Armonas. They married on February 23, 1952 at St. George's Lithuanian Church on York Street in Brooklyn. Mary graduated from Brooklyn College and had a short career as a detective at John Wannamaker's department store. After moving to Long Island, she helped her husband start and grow his home building business, obtaining a real estate license and brokering the sales of homes Andrew built. After retiring in the early 2000's, Mary and Andrew began spending most of their years in Melbourne Beach, Florida. However, they always returned to Long Island in the summers to spend time with their growing family. Mary was an avid bridge player and loved playing at the Huntington Senior Center and Huntington Country Club.
While they had achieved success in the business world, the most important thing in Mary and Andrew's lives was their family. That was their real wealth. Mary was the glue and a proud Matriarch of the Armonas family. She will be deeply missed.
