Obituary of Rudolph J. De Riso

Please share a memory of Rudolph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

De Riso, Rudolph John (Rudy), 93, of Cold Spring Harbor, passed away peacefully at his home on March 1, 2025. Rudy was born in his family home in Greenlawn, Long Island, on August 24,1931 to Palma (Capolongo) and Joseph De Riso. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mary Jo (Donovan), his children Kathleen Mitchell (Brian), Robert (Deanna), John (priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross), William (Bridget), his 8 grandchildren Lauren, Aidan, Dylan, Kelsey, Braydon, Blake, Paityn and Griffin, his sister-in-law Nancy De Riso, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and 6 siblings Martin, Theresa (Tina) Sanders, Neil, Joseph, Frank and Carmel Moon. Rudy graduated from Hofstra College in 1954 and was very proud to then serve 2 years in the US Army in Germany. Following that, he worked at Grumman Aerospace for 10 years. Truly an entrepreneur, he started his own business, Piper Temporary Personnel, Inc. in 1967. He was president and owner for 30 years. Rudy loved sports. He played football for the Huntington High School Blue Devils, enjoyed playing golf, and loved rooting for the New York Mets, Jets, Islanders, and the Fighting Irish. Rudy’s wise counsel, quiet humility and loving presence will be sorely missed. Visitation at M.A. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington Station on Wednesday, March 5, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:45am on Thursday, March 6 at Church of St. Patrick in Huntington, celebrated by his son, Rev. John De Riso, C.S.C. Committal to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rudy’s name to the Congregation of Holy Cross Office of Vocations, P.O. Box 541, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
