Obituary of Elizabeth H. Miller

Elizabeth Maze (Hand) Miller "Betty" of Rochester, Hartwick Seminary, and Brentwood, NY, passed away February 2, 2025, at Carillon Nursing Home in Huntington. She was born May 5, 1931, to Everett LeRoy and Ruth Elizabeth Gilmore Hand in Rochester. She regularly attended Brighton Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and led the Bell Choir. Betty graduated from Brighton High School and attended the Edward J Meyers School of Nursing in Buffalo. As an RPN, she went on to care for new mothers in the maternity ward at Rochester General Hosptial.

Betty married Clark F Miller in 1970. They lived together happily in Hartwick Seminary for 25 years until his death in 1996. There, Betty attended the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Betty is also predeceased by her parents and her sister, Shirley Jean Hand, of Brighton. She is survived by her brother, Ronald G (Kathryn) Hand, and their children: Edward (Kathy) Hand, of Brentwood, NY, Karon (Walt) Simoni, of Fairport, NY, Charles (Gail) Hand of Riverview, FL, Peter Hand of Huntington, NY, David (Maureen) Hand, of E Patchogue, NY, and George (Cindy) Hand of Holbrook, NY.

Also survived by great nephew Rodell (Kadina) Thorbourne of N Babylon and their daughters: Averie, Tiara, Olivia, Madison, and Kennedy. Also, great nephew Charles Hand, Jr. of Riverview, FL, great niece Kathryn Hand of Brentwood, NY and Kiarah Hand of Riverview, FL. Cousins Bryce (Judy) Hand of Syracuse, NY, and Cheryl (Lynn) Kaul, Adrienne Hand, and Danelle Hand all of California.

Special thanks to Kathy Hand for lovingly caring for Aunt Betty for nearly 10 years, to Maureen Hand for her welcome, uplifting visits , to her friend Royetta Alston for solving puzzles with Betty, and to the staff at Carillon Nursing Home for their care during the past two years.

Visitation and Memorial Service 2:00-4:00 pm February 22, 2025 at MA Connell Funeral Home, Huntington, NY. Interment in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery in the spring.
