Phil always greeted me as a long lost best friend who he was so happy to see. I loved sharing our joint experiences in Puerto Rico and his funny and entertaining stories of good times spent there. Throughout every experience, he was fully immersed in our dialogue and connection and it was wonderful and so engaging. He was the most genuine and deeply kind people with whom I had the great pleasure of sharing time. He filled the house with joy and friendship. It is a legacy that lives on in Rebecca. I will miss you Phil, but am grateful to have spent memorable times with you. ❤️

I met Phil almost 50 years ago when we were both enlisted men in the US Naval Reserve. I met the rest of his wonderful family from time to time through the ensuing years.
Phil and I were assigned to the same Company when we found ourselves in "boot camp" for officers
in the late Fifties. Eventually, We were commissioned as Naval Ensigns, he @ Holy Cross and I @ UMass around 1957.
We went through "boot camp" together at Newport, Rhode Island during two summers prior
to receipt of our Commissions.
Phil and I bonded over those summers. On our "liberties" (free time outside of boot camp) we occasionally slept overnight on the beach near Newport's famous "Cliff Walk" and often volunteered to attend dances as "Naval Cadets" with the young ladies of a nearby school for girls called Burnham By-the-Sea.
Though we lost touch with one another during our Navy Tours of Duty, we later reconnected in NYC when I attended Law School and he was at Business school in the early 1960's.
We have been best friends ever since, (I was Best Man at his wedding). At one point in our friendship, he and his family lived around the corner from my family and I on the West Side of Manhattan.
We continued to meet up with each other pretty regularly during that time until Phil and family moved to Long Island.
I cherished Phil's friendship very, very much. Whenever together, we brought up the "old days," discussed current events and, of course, family developments. I always remember the many memories we shared.
Phil was an extremely intelligent, sincere, well-read, bright, talented, funny, considerate and brazenly honest individual, all told, an exceptional human being. I am fortunate to have been part of his life.
I will miss Phil terribly. If there is anyone who deserves more to be in Heaven, it is Phil Ryan!

I met Phillip at the Sanin home in 2018 briefly as I was dropping off some food (my love language ) and again later as I was dropping off tables and chairs for a backyard party.
It’s there that I got to speak with him and get to know him. I asked about his life and service to our country ( he was wearing a hat from the navy ). He was soft spoken and you saw the twinkle in his eye and that smile that would light up a room. His warmth and pride about his family and service to our country…and community embraced your heart mind and soul. He was a deep and loving man who spoke so highly of his family and “ his Rebecca “.
I asked about his service to our country and you could see and feel his love for them both He spoke about service to our country and community. He spoke about a duty to both but nothing more than his duty to his family. He served all with honor and distinction.
Proud to have met Phillip Ryan a Great American, father, husband, grandfather, uncle, innovative thinker , leader and friend to many. He will be missed but I know his legacy will continue in the lives of those he touched… no one more than his loving and caring daughter Rebecca and family.
