Obituary of Lynwood Alverson "Al" Mock
Please share a memory of Lynwood to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lynwood Alverson “Al” Mock, 91, passed away on February 1, 2025. A devoted family man, Al was the cherished husband of the late Nicoletta, loving father to Stephen, and proud grandfather to Lauren, Steven, and Victoria. Dear brother to Arlene, Audrey, Alma, Gwendolyn and the late Roger. Known affectionately as “Uncle Kay” to many, he was also a cousin, friend and father in law.
Al was born in Linden, NJ on August 18, 1933.
He grew up on Elizabeth Street in Manhattan where he attended PS 130 and later high school. He was drafted to the Amy in 1951 where he became a Korean War Veteran.
He Met Nicoletta on the beach and got Married in Brooklyn on September 12, 1959. She was his everything - they enjoyed traveling, specifically cruising all around the world. He enjoyed dropping her off at the hair salon, her own personal Chauffeur.
They moved to Brentwood in the early 1960s and their pride and joy only son, Stephen was born in 1966. His large extended family can attest to the fact that they all often spent weekends together bowling at Franklin Square Bowl and watching Knick games on TV with his illegal cable Box (before anyone else had cable).
His greatest accomplishment was when he became a Pop Pop in 1993. Al spent the majority of his career working at Con Edison, where he dedicated himself until his retirement in 1996. Even after retiring, he maintained close friendships with his former colleagues, gathering monthly for their beloved “Luncheons”—a tradition that, in truth, was a great excuse to visit Jake’s 58 and play slots.
Despite retirement, he started working with Stephen at Personal Touch. His later years were spent holding out for another Yankees World Series win and becoming the oldest fantasy football champion in the league. Watching old movies and reading books. He enjoyed playing words with friends and showing “no mercy”. His stern and stubborn personality shown through the very end. Known for his many sayings.
“I have more miles in reverse than you do in drive” and “I’m not sleeping - I’m just resting my eyes” He can now rest them them peacefully.
