Barbara Joan Hudelmaier, Age 81, of Cold Spring Harbor, NY

Barbara Joan Hudelmaier, affectionately known as Bonnie, age 81, of Cold Spring Harbor, NY, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. She was the cherished wife of Charles Hudelmaier for 59 years and a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.

Born on June 17, 1943, in Manhattan, NY, Bonnie was the daughter of the late John and Theresa (Griesbacher) Ostrowski. When Bonnie was around the age of thirteen, her family relocated to Bethpage, NY, as part of the rapid suburban expansion that offered new opportunities for young families. She graduated from Bethpage High School in 1961, and after completing her studies at Katharine Gibbs in 1962, she began her career as an executive secretary at Milliken in their textile division.

In the summer of 1962, Bonnie met her soulmate, Charles Hudelmaier, at Jones Beach. Their love story blossomed over three years, culminating in their marriage on October 10, 1965. Together, they shared nearly six decades of love, laughter, and companionship.

Bonnie was a woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion to her family. As a mother, she was a constant source of warmth, strength, love and stability for her children, William and Jonna. Her three beloved grandchildren—Nolan, Shea, and Charlie—were the light of her life. Bonnie found joy in attending her grandchildren’s sporting events; be it baseball, soccer, or basketball she would be there rooting them on.

Outside of family, Bonnie had a deep passion for her garden, where she found peace and satisfaction in tending to her vegetables. She was also a gifted cook, a talented seamstress, and an avid pinochle player, enjoying many friendly, as well as competitive games around the kitchen table. Bonnie’s love for life and others knew no bounds, and she was happiest when giving of herself, and this extended to her family in faith.

Bonnie's devotion to her church and her role as a loving servant of God, alongside her husband, was another cornerstone in her life. She spent countless hours decorating the church, singing in the choir, and preparing food for fellowship. For nearly 25 years, she stood beside her husband as he served in various New Apostolic Church congregations in New York, providing unwavering support in his ministry and in the lives of all who knew her.

In addition to her beloved husband, Charles, she is survived by her children William Hudelmaier and his wife Debora of Oyster Bay, NY and Jonna Wenzel and her husband Robert of Cold Spring Harbor, NY; her three cherished grandchildren, Nolan, Shea, and Charlie as well as her brother, John Ostrowski and his wife Lee of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Patricia, who passed away in 1970. Though our hearts are heavy with her absence, we take comfort in knowing that Bonnie is now reunited with Patricia in the arms of our Heavenly Father, where she can continue to shower her love towards others.

Bonnie’s legacy is one of selflessness, love, and faith. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Funeral Service celebrating her life will take place on February 1, 2025 at 11am in the New Apostolic Church located at 145 Crossways Park Drive West, Woodbury, NY 11797 with family visitation occurring before the service from 9:00am-10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bonnies’ name can be made to The Ronald McDonald House (www.rmh-newyork.org).
