Obituary of Allan H. Hanson

Please share a memory of Allan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Friday, August 26, Allan Harry Hanson, passed away at the age of 77 after a year long battle with debilitating brain illnesses. He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Brit and Jennifer and his infant grandson, Leif Justus. Allan was preceded in death by his son, Justus Allan, his parents and brother, Kenneth. He is also survived by his two ex-wives, Janine C. Hanson of Maine and Kristin K. Schmidt of Wisconsin, who remained close to him through to his final days.

Allan was a first generation American born of Swedish immigrant parents, Allan Justus Waller Hansson and Karin Maria Torstensson. He had a happy childhood with his older brother, cousins and many friends in Huntington Station, graduating from Walt Whitman H.S. in 1962. Allan enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve and served in the Mediterranean. He then earned a Civil Engineering degree from Utah State University, Logan. He had a lifelong career in Construction Engineering and Project Management, working through to his early 70’s.

Allan had a fierce love of Nature! He was always up for a hike, ski, sail, camp, travel… you name it… anything outdoors. He was a forever member of the Sierra Club. Allan loved animals, too. His house had an assortment of rescued pets and he even fed the neighborhood raccoon. He had a BIG HEART for people and nature alike.

The family will post details of a future Memorial and Internment of Allan’s cremains (on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/allan.hanson.545 ) when a date has been determined. It was his wish that donations be made to one of the following charities:
