Obituary of Patricia E. Saperton

Patricia E. Saperton passed away in the early morning hours of March 10, 2017. Only days before, she was enjoying the warmth and love of her son, Steven, and her daughter-in-law, Karen, in their beautiful Georgia home. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Dr. Esterino “Ernest” and Emilie Santemma, Pat grew-up in Hempstead, NY. She married Perry A. Seay and raised our family in Huntington, NY. Pat is survived by her brother, Jon N. Santemma, and his wife, Carol; son, Steven P. Seay and wife Karen daughters, Heather P.S. James and Erin E. Knuuti and spouse, and grandchildren, Olivia Seay, Owen Seay, Stephanie Seay, Tyler James, Luke Knuuti, and several nephews and nieces. Pat was a student as well as a teacher. As a student, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Syracuse University, her Master’s Degree from (Post/ Hofstra College), her Ph.D. from Hofstra University and her law degree from Touro College. As a teacher, she taught fifth grade at Timber Point Elementary School and later Reading at Islip Terrace, High School. After retiring from teaching, Pat enjoyed practicing law with her loving brother, Jon N. Santemma, Esq. Pat later married David Saperton, Jr., a pianist with a free spirit and endless devotion to Pat. In her retirement she devoted herself to David's care. When her beloved piano player succumbed to COPD in March of 2008, Pat struggled to regain her footing. She resumed her efforts learning to play the piano and joined her friends in the bridge group, and enjoyed spending time with her family. Throughout all of these achievements, Pat found her comfort at the beach and by the pool. During her childhood, she enjoyed Shelter Island and the shore at her parents' cabana at Lido Beach. Pat raised her own family on the beaches at Wincoma, Nathan Hale, and Robert Moses, often with her dear friend Marge and all of the children. Several years ago, Pat left the hectic Long Island area behind, in favor of the warm and caring support of her family in Georgia. Pat settled in slowly at first, but ultimately thrived in her son Steven's Georgia home. Pat had a great time! She was never more calm, more content, nor more at peace than in recent days. She called herself a "Georgia peach". All who knew her surely would agree, that Long Island girl sure was a peach! Visitation Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at M.A. Connell Funeral Home, 934 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Funeral Mass Saturday 9:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Huntington.
